Position: Teacher Consultant for the Visually Impaired
Population: ages 3 to 26, various developmental levels
Responsibilities: Teach visually impaired students various skills of blindness, including Braille, assistive technology skills, low vision device skills. Consult with parents, teachers, and other support staff members on implementing devices and plans designed to improve the quality of work or life for the visually impaired students

Detroit Public Schools Primary Visually Impaired Program, Detroit MI
Position: Primary Self-Contained Teacher of the Visually Impaired
Population: ages 3 to 7, various developmental levels
Responsibilities: Teach all regular academic subjects to visually impaired students in grades preschool through 1st grade. Modifications for low vision and blindness, including preferential seating, large print, optical aids, and Braille are made for all subjects. Special subjects such as vision stimulation, orientation and mobility, and use of low vision aids are also taught. Team leader for child’s IEP and advocacy roles are included in responsibilities.

Perkins School for the Blind Outreach Program, Hyannis MA
Position: Itinerant and Consultant Teacher of the Visually Impaired
Population: birth to 21, various developmental levels
Responsibilities: Provide direct and consultative services to local school districts with visually impaired students and early intervention services to the local community. Specific instructional areas include vision stimulation, vision therapy, low vision modifications and device training, Braille instruction, pre- literacy intervention, environmental training, evaluation, educational planning and implementation.

Area Cooperative Educational Services, Hamden CT
Position: Itinerant and Consultant Teacher of the Visually Impaired
Population: kindergarten to 12th grade, various developmental levels
Responsibilities: Educate students, teachers, parents, and various support staff members on the skills of blindness and low vision, including Braille, daily living skills, adaptations and implementations of strategies, assessment and evaluation.
