Duties: The Orientation and Mobility Specialist travels to the students' assigned schools to provide specialized instruction and special education services relating to vision loss to students between the ages of 3 through 21. Community-based instruction is assumed and is a critical component of the orientation and mobility program. Primary duties include: Provide instruction in safe, efficient travel within the home, school, and community; Provide instruction in compensatory skills including daily living skills, self-advocacy, and recreation or leisure skills as related to orientation and mobility and self-determination; Participate in the referral and assessment process of visually impaired students; Conduct evaluations to determine the orientation and mobility needs of visually impaired students.
Qualifications: Bachelors or Master’s Degree in education of students with visual impairment or related field; Certification from the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP); Experience with School Age Children preferred; Valid Georgia driver’s license and transportation
Additional Information: Northeast Georgia RESA is located a few miles from the University of Georgia, in the great town of Athens. Our shared services program provides low incidence special education and related services to the thirteen school systems in our district.
