Speech Language Specialist

Duties: Assist district staff in making appropriate referrals for Speech and Language service. Conduct speech screenings for potential referral to special education. Assess students as needed and submit appropriate information and reports to determine eligibility/non-eligibility. Participate as multidisciplinary member for all children whose speech, language or hearing may impact their educational development. Prepare individual student goals and objectives for Individual Educational Programs (IEPs). Conduct speech and language therapy in accordance with the IEP. Maintain current data on students receiving therapy. Consult with physicians and other agencies of the community regarding referrals and mutual exchange of information. Mentor and supervise speech assistants as necessary. Provide inservice to district staff regarding speech and language needs as requested.
Qualifications: Masters Degree in Speech and Language. Washington State Certification as a Speech Language Pathologist. Knowledge of federal and state special education rules and regulations. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work well with all levels of ESD and school district staff. Successful experience working with school age children. Successful experience mentoring or coaching peers and colleagues. Personal transportation and willingness to travel.
