Manager of Rehab Services (COMS)

Duties: Provide direct services to individuals who are blind or low vision in orientation and mobility as well as vision rehabilitation therapy/rehabilitation teaching for the blind and visually impaired. Manage day-to-day programs and assist consumers with issues related to rehabilitation services. Participate in long-range planning and policy development by providing input to senior management concerning staffing needs, appropriate training, information about resources and trends in service provision to persons who are blind or visually impaired. Oversee staff and consultants who work directly in CLB rehabilitation programs (i.e. orientation and mobility, rehabilitation teaching, counseling, Braille instruction, etc.). Schedule and coordinate daily program activities, including conducting intakes and making appropriate referrals for service, and arranging and facilitating consumer staffing. Serves as representative for CLB on committees, at meetings, conferences and other presentations. Conduct in-service training regarding blindness issues and CLB programs and services. Serve as liaison with sponsoring/partnership agencies such as the DC Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), MD-DORS (Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services), UDC Senior Companion Program. Monitor students’ progress through reports, ongoing discussions, and meetings with students and staff. Prepare monthly billing, statistics, reports and relevant correspondence about and for consumers. Coordinate services, specials programs, and events related to older adults 55 years and older.

Qualifications: Bachelor degree in orientation and mobility or rehabilitation or related field working primarily with visually impaired adults. Masters degree preferred. Minimum of three to five years of experience and certification as a practitioner in the field of blindness in one of the following areas: Teacher of the visually handicapped, Orientation and mobility specialist, Rehabilitation teacher for the visually impaired/vision rehabilitation therapist, Rehabilitation Counselor, Occupational Therapist. Knowledge of community and professional resources. Minimum of two years in a staff supervisory position.

Additional Information: Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Must possess excellent judgment and be well organized and detailed oriented. Must have the ability to work with confidential material.
