Teacher Consultant for the Visually Impaired

Duties: Plans curriculum, prepares instructional materials. Confers with parents, administrators, psychologists, social workers, and others to develop individual educational programs. Instructs students in reading and writing using magnification equipment and large print material of Braille system. Schedules, participates in, and/or conducts IEP meetings to determine appropriate placement of students. Transcribes lessons and other materials into Braille or large print. Demonstrates proficiency in teaching various types of adaptive technology. Administers and interprets results of tests. Observes, evaluates, and prepares reports on students progress. Meets with parents to provide support and guidance in using community resources.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university. Certificates, license, registration: Michigan K-12 Teaching Certificate; Endorsement in visual Impairment. Preference given to candidates with Orientation and Mobility certification.
