Teacher for the Visually Impaired
South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind Outreach
Columbia, SC
Duties: Provide itinerant vision services to local school districts. Conduct Functional Vision Literacy Media Assessments and provide instruction in braille, low vision devices, and the Expanded Core Curriculum. Adapt instructional materials and consult with teachers, professionals and parents regarding unique needs of visually impaired students.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Special Education of the Visually Impaired and two years' experience working with students who are visually impaired. Eligible for South Carolina Certification in the area of visual impairment. Must have considerable knowledge of methods to assess students and experience in the development of Individual Education Plans appropriate to the developmental and educational needs of visually impaired students.
Additional Information: Possibility of providing special instruction to families with visually impaired children age 0-3.
